Anesthesia for Adult Circumcision

looking into an adult circumcision.   i was wondering how is the pain and what kind of anesthesia is involed? And where is this located. Anything around fridericksburg virginia? Thanks  Lee

Dear Lee,

We use local anesthesia, but I know there are so many places where adult circumcisions are performed, here and abroad where general anesthesia is used.

In our practice 99.9% oi patients have it under local. If you wish some IV sedation we can provide that  Or prescribe a Xanax beforehand.  After the consultation and examination in which circumcision styles are discussed, you head towards the operating/recovery room suite.  Our assistant applies some numbing cream on your penis, and we wait 15 to 20 minutes.  Then inject you with local anesthesia in mostly a ring block manner (at the base of the penis)  We wait another 10 to 15 minutes, then check you for sensitivity and if completely numb we start.  The anesthetic lasts for about 4 hours.

After cleansing we apply steri-strips and a double layered wrap.  First is soft conforming gauze which stretches and on top of that Coban a stretchable adhesive fabric.  This helps to reduce swelling and pain (from stretched nerves). Sorry, do not know of anybody in Fredericksburg who is gifted in cosmetic circumcision.
