Kasia Rivera, 34, has been placed under arrest, for illegally performing a penis enhancement without a licence

A fake doctor injected a man’s penis with silicone, killing him, police said Friday.

Justin Street visited Kasia Rivera, 34, at her home in New Jersey for the penis enhancement proceedure on May 5, prosecutors say.

But just a day after attending the so-called ‘pumping-party’ the 22-year-old was dead.

Street suffered a clot to the lungs and died. A medical examiner determined he died of a silicone embolism.

His death was ruled a homicide following an investigation and Rivera has now been charged with manslaughter.

She also faces charges involving the unauthorised practice of medicine. She was arrested Friday and is being held on $75,000 bail.

Silicon injections are increasingly used to enlarge body parts, such as the buttocks.

The only cosmetic use for non-encapsulated medical silicone approved by the FDA is Botox, for use around the eyes.

But blackmarket illegal use by untrained practitioners continues as a quick-fix budget alternative to cosmetic surgery. Doctors say the slow economy has also fuelled the trade.

While side effects are thought to be relatively rare, in some cases silicone will migrate through the bloodstream, resulting in a potentially fatal clot in the heart or brain or lungs.

The silicone can also migrate through tissue leaving disfiguring lumps.
There is also no guarantee of medical grade silicon at so called ‘pumping parties’ cosmetic events held in homes, offices and even motel rooms.

Industrial-grade silicone purchased hardware stores is sometimes used as are toxic substitutes such as castor oil, mineral oil and petroleum jelly.

Last year a New Jersey model was charged with providing toxic buttock boosting silicon calk injections to six women, leaving them needing surgery, the Star Ledger reported. A judge threw out the case because any law she had broken was not specified in the indictment.

A fake surgeon was last month accused of carrying out DIY surgery on at least five people in Florida. Oneal Ron Morris allegedly inserted deadly toxins including cement and tyre sealants into her patients, before sealing the wounds with superglue.

Wound healing, tensile strength, and weight lifting

February 11th, 2012

February 11, 2012

Thank you for your response. I wanted to ask you something else: I am currently lifting weights and exercising regularly, after I get circumcised, for how long will I have to stop lifting weights, running, swimming, etc.?

Thanks again for your time,

Harley

February 12, 2012

Good morning Harley

Thank you for your continued interest in what we do.

You could do upper body exercises within a week.  Would not advise running or swimming for about 4 to 6 weeks, depending on wound healing.

An incision line takes 7 to 9 weeks to regain full tensile strength.

Have a restful weekend,

Are fees combined?

February 11th, 2012

February 11, 2012

On your website I see:

fee for lengthening $4500
fee for girth enhancement $7950

My question: is the girth fee standalone or does it include lengthening?

Thank you,

Ferris Fairchild

Good morning Ferris,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.  Fees are not combined as these are independent events.  For girth enhancement, the fee may be higher, depending upon your length.  Please see our web-site.   However if you are able to commit to future surgeries with a deposit we will be happy to apply a discount on these subsequent procedures.  That we can do.

Length and girth should not be performed together as this is a blueprint for disaster or a poor length result at best.

After reading the attached, if you believe I am the doctor for you, please initiate a consultation over the phone with our office by sending us your name, address, and telephone number in an envelope along with a check for 250.  We’ll get started ASAP.  We’ll have a lot to talk about.

Cordially,

AlloDerm on top of flip-flop dermal-fat graft, risky business

February 11th, 2012

February 9, 2012

Dear Dr. Reed,

Had a dermal-fat graft performed 3 years ago and the graft is mobile under the skin, not fixed.  Could use more girth.

Do I increase my risk in getting erectile dysfunction when I get into a second surgery or with alloderm.

Samel-ElHira

February 9, 2012

Dear Samel-ElHira,

While there is no significant increase if any on erectile dysfunction in that the graft is subcutaneous, there are more untoward cosmetic results with secondary and tertiary procedures in that the vascularity is less optimal, and tissue handling and surgical judgement has to be very apt.

If your graft is moving about, this suggested a poor vascular connection on its surface in some areas.  Dermal surfaces usually adhere quite well to the underlying penile skin.  If we place AlloDerm over this, what does this prognosticate for the success of our surgery?  Best to work with a clean base and healthy tissue.

Sincerely,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

Canadian patient seeks cosmetic “private” circumcision with experienced Dr. Reed

February 11th, 2012

February 11, 2012

Dear Dr. Reed,

I am looking to have an adult circumsision done. I am finding it difficult to find anywhere in Canada that will do the procedure. I am willing to travel to the US and have it done privately. I am curious is it possible to do phone and email consultations and book an appointment?  James

February 11, 2012

Good morning James,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.  Your p.nis is one of the most important functional and cosmetic features of your body.  We see many patients from Canada.  Yes, we can do the phone consultation prior to your being seen here, as this is truly the best way.  Our consult fee also provides for further discussion and examination at the office gratis.

We have performed over 6500 cosmetic circumcisions and revisions in the past 35 years and usually do several cases every week.

We have done sons of physicians, brothers, religious circumcisions, men who have not seen the heads of their penis for 20 years!  This is your circumcision and we do it the way you want with respect to 4 parameters.

Please don’t be like the patient who writes: “Dr. Reed I just got circumcised (elsewhere) two days ago, and my result was not what i expected. I was wondering when i recover can i get a consultation with you.”  Photos sent and received.  Unspoken comment: “disaster zone.”

Be assured we will show you every courtesy,

All the best,

Cosmetically Performed Adult Circumcision

February 11th, 2012

February 11, 2012

Hi Dr. Reed
Thanks for the email however  I still have some questions about the procedure. First of all, I want to know how long it takes to heal? Second of all, will I be able to work in less than a week after doing it? Finally, is it something that I can do secretly without anyone else noticing?
Marceau

February 11, 2012

Good morning Marceau,

Taking your thoughtful questions in the order posed…

How long it takes to heal?An incision takes about 7 to 8 weeks to regain full tensile strength.  Cosmetically here will be noticeable improvement ‘or a few months after your procedure.  Penetrating sexual activity is no recommended before 7 to 8 weeks.

Second of all, will I be able to work in less than a week after doing it?Yes.

Finally, is it something that I can do secretly without anyone else noticing?

Not sure what you mean, but if someone looks at your penis even 2 months after surgery, they may suspect you had recent surgery.  Usually by about 3 months, things should settle down to be what could be called a mature result.

Have a restful weekend,

Making plans for cosmetic circumcision, correction of Peyronie’s (penile curvature)

January 29th, 2012

January 24, 2012

Hi Dr Reed,

I hope this email finds you well.

I have a few more questions.

I would be flying from California, and would like to get circumcised the same day that I arrive, stay the night at a hotel, and then fly back the next morning. Would you recommend that?

What dates do you have available next week or the beginning of February? please review the pics I sent you before. I don’t think i need curvature correction unless you believe I do.

Thanks,

Albert

Good morning Albert,

Thank you for your continued interest.  Presently I am on retreat in the Carolinas.

The desirability of correction of a curvature in the range of 10 to 20% (estimated from photos) is your call.

Some things to think about.

1.  About 5% of men have similar curvatures and live with them.

2.  If it does not bother you cosmetically or functionally or hurt your partner or provoke comment, then you could leave this alone.

3.  If this is a process in evolution (getting worse or better) we should talk about that, as surgery at this time may not be indicated for the curvature.

4.  Add-ons if you are already in  then operating room are very inexpensive (at least at our facility).  For example your circumcision is done for free, your only fee is correction of
curvature.

5.  You could always have correction of curvature later on, if you wish, but costly… so you haven’t burned any bridges.

6.  If this were my penis, yes, I would opt for simultaneous correction.  Ideally you would need to stay here for 2 days and I would see you daily..

Our fee for correcting curvature is 6,200 and includes: local anesthesia with or without IV sedation, use of the operating room and any followup care I provide.

Please call Anne at the office and schedule in with her.  She is also the maker of deals.

Sincerely,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

Foreskin restoration, Acell (continued)

January 29th, 2012

January 24, 2012

Good morning Dr. Reed,

Have you done an Acell? I’ll call tomorrow and do the deposit

Ray

January 24, 2011

Good afternoon Ray,

I have not, but had the rep in my office a few days ago.

Acell is being used at Mount Sinai and the University of Miami, again not for urological reasons.

There are always penile stretching devices and that of course is non-surgical.

Sincerely,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

More on foreskin restoration, Acell rejuvenative products

January 29th, 2012

January 23, 2012

Good morning Dr. Reed,

I just read about the Acell products… The proposed method would involve placing the patient under general anaesthesia. The penile skin would be opened at the circumcision scar, while the scar tissue is surgically debrided. A biomedical solution would then be applied to both ends of the wound, causing the foreskin to regenerate with the DNA in the patient’s own cells. A biodegradable scaffold would be used to offer support for the regenerating foreskin
Im very interested in this procedure much more than the 2 step procedure, as this looks like its easier on the patient and more natural.. is it similar pricing and process?

Ray D.

January 23, 2012

Yes, Ray the price would be the same.

Harold

Foreskin restoration, Acell, rejuvenative products

January 29th, 2012

January 23, 2012

Dear Dr. Reed,

I would like to… Can you answer a few cursory questions first?  Can the consultation be done through remote means (pics, phone discussions, Face Time etc.), as it’s not just cost prohibitive to go back and forth frequently, it’s difficult with my business in addition.  Can you explain to me what you mean by tissue rejuvenated products?  Is this different than the attachment? Any information on the Acell recent development and that process? I also see on the attached information that it says it “ideally” done in two stages – can it be done in 1, to limit trips and travel? I’ll gladly call, or contact you for the consultation if i can get a little more information…

Ray D.

January 23, 2012

Good afternoon Ray,

The Acell approach is one option and if successful would mean, a one stage procedure, but there will be wound healing for 45 days or so, until your skin regenerates.

There are no published articles on this procedure for foreskin restoration but experience with other parts of the body suggest this could work.

If not successful we can fall back on scrotal implantation as an intermediary step.

Ideally done in 2 stages, means there could be additional stages if revisions or touch ups are needed.

Yes, consultation should over initiated over the phone.  Having done this, your first visit in the office is free, excepting lab tests.

Or you can forget Acell and just decide based on the attached sent out.

Sincerely,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.
