Unable to retract foreskin

Happy Holidays to all. I’m new to the group and my situation is this. I was able to retract the foreskin when erect and soft but, I only can now when I’m soft. I don’t want a full circ, maybe a partial. Any advice.

Hi Leland,

There are remedies you can consider: steroids applied judiciously, but usually the end result is not workable. You may also have a dorsal slit, or even “cigar clipping” done but recovering from this may be more problematic. Lastly you can have a loose circumcision with normal ease of recovery. Please look at
http://www.penisdoctor.com/photo-circumcision.htm

We have performed over 5000 cosmetic circumcisions in the past 35 years and usually do several cases every week.

We do ask that you stay for one, ideally 2 days at the Baltic Hotel (advanced tourist class) and I will see you there daily.

You could return to an office environment in about 4 days after circumcision. Our 2 layered wrap of soft conforming gauze and Coban will provide comfort and reduce swelling.

We have done sons of physicians, medical students and residents, brothers, religious circumcisions, men who have not seen the heads of their penis for 20 years! This is your circumcision or partial circumcision and we do it the way you want with respect to 4 parameters.

Please don’t be like the patient who writes: “Dr. Reed I just got circumcised two days ago and my result was not what i expected. I was wondering when i recover can i get a consultation with you.” Photos sent and received (unspoken comment “disaster zone”)

Be assured we will show you every courtesy,

Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year,

High, tight or loose

Re: High or low, tight or loose?

Hello Magellan,

This is all your call. As mentioned a few messages ago, if you have phimosis, for sure, the bad tissue has to be removed and then you may be looking a moderate or low cut. Regardless you still will be every bit as handsome as you are now, but just a little bit cleaner down below. We give our patients four options, remove or do not remove the frenulum, high medium or low cut, tight or loose or any way in between, and the cut can be parallel to the rim (corona) which is on a slant or perpendicular to the long axis of your penis.

If it is on the diagonal the inner skin is equidistant in width all the way around.

Happy and Healthy New Year,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

PS. We recommend the Baltic Hotel in Miami Beach (advanced tourist class) with freshly baked gourmet Danish daily, hot coffee, sparkling white thick linens, 8 minute drive to the office, and I make rounds there every morning. Cristina, the owner maanger has shown a strong partiality to our patients. For reservations 888-622-5842.

Phimosis and weighs 350 pounds

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I am 67 yrs of age and weigh 350 lbs. I have phimosis and I am considering a circumcision. I have Medicare and AARP  and do not have other funds avaiable. I would like to get done as outpatient, no hospital stay. I don’t like the idea of spending a night in hospital. Would this be possible?   Sid

Good morning Sid,

We respectfully would decline to do your circumcision at our office based facility but would in a hospital setting and yes, most likely you needs would be best served to have you stay overnight.  However, we could request an early morning starting time, and most likely if you are stable, you could be discharged later (same day).   Accepting Medicare as the primary and Aetna as a secondary is no problem as long as their regulations are followed.

I know you would not get on a plane with a 5% likelihood of a major mechanical malfunction, why take chances with surgery?

We do ask that you stay for one, ideally 2 days at the Baltic Hotel (advanced tourist class) and I will see you there daily.

Man dithering whether to have a circumcsion in NYC or with Dr. Reed

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I wish I had the luxury of just flying down to Florida and paying for Dr.
Reed. Unfortunately, I’m in my mid 20′s, although I have insurance I make under
$600 a week and live in the most expensive city. I would love to go see Reed
but it’s not feasible. Rather keep it local. There has to be a good Urologist
or Plastic Surgeon in NYC.     Thanks,   Chaz

Say Chaz,

What if I picked up your airline ticket. Please check NYC urologists first of course. Remember with us, you choose the 4 parameters, have a hand held mirror in the operating room to be sure it’s done properly as you wish. Can I whisper a secret in your ear. Most of our patients are salt of the earth people just like you, and for them, their penis is special. You take care of little Chaz.

Chaz,

Since you are already circumcised, you are seeking a specific procedure. Dr Reed, being an Urologist and a Plastic Surgeon, is the doctor for that procedure. He has done over 5000 circumcisions and or revisions. Your penis is your calling card, you only get one. Why not go to the best.

A round trip flight to Fort Lauderdale is less than one hundred fifty dollars.  I would at least make a call to Dr Reed and at least tell him the specifics of what you want.

Will my sensitivity be maintained after circumcision?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009
Re: Question for Dr Reed

Hi im 23 going to 24 i’ve been considering getting circumsized by you since i heard your very good at them. Thing is i dont know what to expect once its cut.   what going to get more sensitive and whats not? im just afraid i might lose sensitivity.    Sai.

Good morning friend Sai,

A circumcision is about removing skin only. Reports of loss of sensitivity are probably related to a doctor cutting at the wrong tissue plane and is extremely rare. Be assured having done over 5000 circumcisions, I do not believe one patient has complained of loss of sensitivity.

Studies have been done with large cohorts (number of subjects) such as the Kaiser Permanente study involving thousands of men, and bottom line… no loss or gain of sensitivity on average. Yes, there were some outliers (patients above and below the mean) but on average mean ejaculatory time, a sign of sensitivity remains the same. And biothesiometry studies, a nerve conduction test designed to measure barely perceivable vibrations (fine touch) shows no statitstical difference between the groups.

Most will have heightened sensitivity immediately after circumcision and this subsides to normal in a few weeks. Then, it’s business as usual, and you can put in your regards for me anytime.

Adult Circumcision, is it covered by medical insurance

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Hi Dr. Reed
Thanks for the information about circumcision. Actually, I have been thinking about this procedure for a while, not because of medically necessary, but for hygienic reasons. Does medical insurance company usually cover such a procedure?   Tony Ambrose

Good morning Mr. Ambrose,

Most insurance companies will fund for a circumcision if there is a medical reason, such as chronic irritation, phimosis, tearing, bleeding, balanitis xerotica obliterans, preputial skin bridges, perhaps recurrent penile warts or lesions on the inner skin.

We are contracted providers and accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield (non HMO) and Medicare. Or we would be pleased to fill out your insurance form for maximal reimbursement to you directly.

If you have more specific questions, perhaps you could call your carrier to learn about the unique benefits of your policy. At any rate, you have a friend in Bay Harbor Islands (greater Miami) and anticipate we will show you every courtesy.

A broker, a claims evaluator, and a principal

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

All were done this past Friday, coming in from as far as Texas, and all have done exceptionally well.

We fussed over each patient, no clocks on the wall (just like a Casino), and saw each the next day.  Yes, we enjoy doing circumcisions and enjoy having the patient follow work in progress with a hand held mirror.  No inflammation or phimosis, but each one in their own way came to the conclusion for hygienic reasons, it was time.

Adult circumcision to prevent infection

Friday, August 28th, 2009

I have heard that this procedure is being done to help reduce the risk of infection if this is true and the case is it covered by insurance?    Marlow

Hi Marlow,

Please confer with your insurance company for an explanation of benefits.  National medical review panels are leaning in this direction but this is still controversial.

Most of my patients today are having circumcision as an elective procedure.  If you do have a history of inflammation, tearing, inability to easily retract your foreskin for daily hygiene, that usually is not problematic.  As always, honesty is the best policy.
