February 9, 2011

Dear Dr. Reed,
My hopes for a more erect angle on my penis after the surgery on Sept. 21st 2010 has not really done anything to move the angle upward like we hoped? Easier to wear a condom though? The suspensory ligament is obviously the reason it is firm at such a low angle? any thoughts of how this angle could be helped? I believe none?.Thanks for any response or referral? would X rays show you something ?  Tyrone

February 10, 2011

Good evening Tyrone,

Your records were reviewed this evening.  Pre-op your erection curved somewhat upwards.  However, with release of the suspensory ligament we can certainly expect the erection to be more deflectable downwards with
gentle pressure.  “Two wet towels versus one wet towel.”  To tack your penis to the pubic symphysis which can be done (by others) will predictably result in penile shortening as that portion of the penis is sub-cutaneous.

Please do not have this done.

Hoping this addresses your concerns,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

PS: If you wish, kindly send me a photo of how the revision has healed.

Kidney transplant patient seeks augmentation

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

How much (on average) does a penis lengthening and girth widening normally run.
I would assume insurance doesn’t cover any of this?

Also I have had a kidney transplant.  Is it safe to do this surgery?

And finally do men (after having this surgery) still have sensitivity?

Thanks, Benton

January 25, 2011

Good afternoon Benton,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.  If you don’t need this operation my suggestion is not to have it done, although we did elective surgery on a patient who had a cardiac transplant and is a professional golfer.

Best to confer with your transplant team.

Sensitivity is maintained, however my informed consent reads there’s always a possibility.

After reading the attached, if you believe I am the doctor for you, please initiate a consultation over the phone with our office by sending us your name, address, and telephone number in an envelope along with a check for 250.  We’ll get started ASAP.  We’ll have a lot to talk about.

Please keep in mind…  April is a promotional offer month if you stay at the Baltic Hotel (advanced tourist class, 877-622-5842).  Ask for Christina and mention my name.

I am 57 years old. And am considering a Penile Prosthesis because of E.D . My doctor skirts around some very important questions I have. Length and girth. I would consider a trip to FL to get the operation. Thank you for your time.  Geoffrey

November 26, 2010

Good morning Geoffrey,

Many thanks for your in interest in what we do.  Since 1975, I have installed about 2000 implants and the closest and most appreciative relationship I have with patients relate to those who have regained the wherewithal to penetrate.

There are some thoughts about combining  enhancing length with implant surgery I’d like to share with you.   Yes, this can be done.   However, doing girth at the same time is too much surgery.  I would  respectfully propose you defer this until after your implant is well healed and encapsulated, a good 6 months later perhaps.

Be assure we look forward to your initialing a consultation over the phone (one time fee of 250) and when you arrive, anticipate we will show you every  courtesy.

Have a restful Holiday week!

Yours faithfully,

Penile Enhancement went too far south, what to do

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

I am a victim of a botched Penile Enhancement surgery. Does Dr Reed perform Penile Reconstructive Surgery? Will provide more info when Dr Reed responds.

October 17, 2010

Good afternoon Bennett,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.

Hardly a few days go by, that I do not hear  a “tale of woe” similar to yours.

The most common cause is “get-there-itis” with too much simultaneous surgery. I could show you some photos, but you might find them too gruesome.

The attached is what we send to prospective patients, but could be of more than passing interest.

After reading the attached, if you believe I am the doctor for you, please initiate a consultation over the phone with our office by sending us your name, address, and telephone number in an envelope along with a check for 250. We’ll get started ASAP. We’ll have a lot to talk about.

Combining length and girth, primrose path to disaster

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Which procedure do you recommend for girth enhancement? Which one feels the most like pre op flesh?  Would girth enhancement alone prevent the penis from shrinking and do you gain any length from the girth procedure?  Do you use any implants in the lengthening procedure to prevent retraction?

Can any type of girth procedure be done together with lengthening?
Would I be able to drive home 3 days after the procedure (10 hr drive)?   Calvin

September 12, 2010

Good morning Calvin,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.

Either AlloDerm or BellaDerm would be acceptable and in our hands produce similar results.  No sir, do no combine length and girth enhancement as the results for length are lackluster at best and often disastrous.  We have patients coming to our office every month who have had “get-there-itis” and rue the day.   You cannot drive home or go to the mall after the procedure.  Right to bed at a nearby motel and bed rest for 4 days.  Yes, sir.

You want a beautiful result or do you want your penis to have more wrinkles than a stewed prune?

Girth enhancement will not prevent the penis from flaccid contracture as the material is soft (like a wet chamois).

We tried implants for length about 12 years or so ago, and desisted because of the overly high incidence of extrusion of the silicone strips.  We have also heard repeatedly that other physician(s) who employ this technique are (in the here and now) having patients with similar experiences.

Not all that glitters is gold.

Have a restful Sunday,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

Interested in BellaDerm

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Hello there,
I am interested in the belloderm procedure. My measurements are 6 x 4.5 what sort of gains would I expect. do the grafts reabsorbe over time. I live in Australia, how would I have to stay in USA for recovery. And how long is recommended to have off work, I work in construction.

Thank you,  Harnon

September 12, 2010

Good morning Harnon,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.

The grafts may, (may) reabsorb by about 10% but this is more than offset by replacement with cells of your own making. Please expect some added girth from the bruise effect which will subside, but afterwards the wind up is you should have a noticeable difference in girth.

Please avoid any possibility for genital trauma or straddle injury for a good 6 to 7 weeks. Yes, if caution is exercised you could return to work earlier, perhaps 2 weeks after surgery.

Was my circumcision done by a trainee?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Hi Dr Reed i have been looking at some of the excellent work you do there ,and what i have seen has made me want to come to you ,if you can help me that is ? i am a 37 year old from australia I had a circumcision about 2 month`s  ago, the doctor that did it is ment to have 30 year`s exp of doing it under his belt , so i thought that i would be in good hand`s , the day after the surgery i was looking at the job he did ,as i was i noticed how everything looked uneven , 3
weeks later i went back to see the doctor as the swelling on one side had not gone down he said it looks fine and that the skin would shrink back down ,and i was worryed about the way it was healing with the skin bulging over on each side he did`nt put a pressure bandidge on it which a friend of myn found strange , and that it looks almost like the top of a castel as i think they used a thick grade stitches .On the left side of the shaft from the head to the scar line it is
12 mm and on the right is 32 mm from head to scar line and thats how it was when i first looked at it and thats how it stayed and the scar is not at all straight far from it,it has heald up looking ugly.  On the left side of the shaft
the skin did`nt fuse correctly and it overlap`s and it also overlap`s on the right  ,i was informed it took 15 minutes for the surgery and then they must have stapled me up ,sure look`s like it i think a trainee did it myself the 3 blind
mice, do you think there is a way i can make them pay for it to be fixed ? I would like to know a little more about the girth enhancement tech you do i have read some of whats on your web site and mynewsize.com i have tryed to enhance my girth for year`s trying all sort`s of stuff nothing has so far worked pills, rubs ,ointments, everything but surgery i like what i have seen on here and of all the was it can be done which do you think is best and the one you
would have done if you was going to do it yourself?also would it be better to get that done at the same time as a revision and could you maybe give me a price on that please sir . can you help me Dr Reed or do you know of someone
in australia? i look forward to hearing from you thank you Dr Reed i have attached a few photo`s yours truely

Lionel

September 9, 2010

Good morning Lionel,

Please read the letter we send to prospective patients and a personal comment will follow…

Thank you for your interest in what we do. Yes, we do men in your age group every week.

We have performed over 6000 cosmetic circumcisions in the past 35 years and usually do several cases every week.

We do ask that you stay for one, ideally 2 days at the Baltic Hotel (advanced tourist class) or Daddy’s O’s (more posh) and I will see you there daily.

You could return to an office environment in about 4 days after circumcision. Our 2 layered wrap of soft conforming gauze and Coban will provide comfort and reduce swelling.

We have done sons of physicians, medical students and residents, brothers, religious circumcisions, men who have not seen the heads of their penis for 20 years! This is your circumcision and we do it the way you want with respect to
4 parameters.

Please don’t be like the patient who writes: “Dr. Reed I just got circumcised two days ago and my result was not what i expected. I was wondering when i recover can i get a consultation with you.” Photos sent and received (unspoken
comment “disaster zone”)

Be assured we will show you every courtesy,

Sincerely,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

OK Lionel, here’s my take and I have a professional responsibility not to be
castigating..

Could have been a lot better. Aside from every critique you mention, of which I would agree, widely placed sutures lead to a lot of puckering which is evident on some of your photos.

Circumcisions are traditionally not well paid for at least in the United States, because conventional wisdom (wrong) is a urologist could run through this procedure in 15 minutes.

When I was a resident, I saw a urologist ask a nurse in the operating room with a prominent clock on the wall…”What time is it.” and the nurse said with some askance “Why doctor it is 8:15.”. Fifteen minutes later he completed the circumcision and the urologist said again, “nurse, what time is it, and she dutifully looked at the clock and complied, “why doctor it is 8:30.” He then said, “Do you mean I just did a circumcision in 15 minutes?” When I look down at the poor patient I thought to myself, it looked like it had been done in 15 minutes.

Lionel, in our practice it takes about 55 minutes. Penile skin does not come cheap.

The unevenness may resolve only somewhat as the swelling subsides, but I would be hard pressed to say this will self-correct. Also there is an area where the penile skin is inverted.

Suggestion, wait a good 3 to 4 months after your circumcision for everything to heal as well as it is going to. If continued improvement is slowly noted, wait even longer, then most likely you will come to revision. We do not maintain a directory of a handful of urologists in Australia who are cosmetically minded (there must be some).  Or see me. In fact we see Australians here quite regularly,

Lastly, I would like permission to post some of your photos on our web-site without mention of your name.

Every best wish,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

Phalloplasty, weights and traction

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Hello Doctor I was wondering if you could help me with this question.  After penis lengthening surgery when weights are required for 8 hours a day, how is this done?  Does that mean that the patient would stand with weights on his penis for 8 hours daily?

Thanks

Bernie

July 31, 2010

Good afternoon Bernie,

When we think of weights, more generally we are speaking of  traction which should be started a day after surgery simply with manual extension for 2 minutes (with you lying down) up towards the ceiling for two minutes and down (towards your feet) for two minutes, a least 8 times a day.  Give your penis a chance to accommodate.  You will notice towards the end of the two minute interval your penis is longer.  Also immediately following surgery, your penis has been wrapped, extended outwards, like in a cervical collar.  This helps too.

After 5 days the wrap is removed and slowly you will progress into serious traction graduating up to 8 pounds if your doctor feels your diameter is capable of that much tension without injury.

I could talk for many minutes about how traction should be and not be applied.

You can accomplish a good deal of the minimum 8 hours a day needed while on bed rest.

Sorry the information is vague, because without knowing you, or having a doctor-patient relationship with you, I cannot go into specifics, but I am available for consultation over the phone if you wish.

Our fee is 250 and this is a one time charge, thus there is no charge for your first visit at the office, excluding any lab work which may be needed.

Sincerely,

Harold M. Reed, M.D.

Penile silicone disaster patient seeks a better way

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Hi Dr. Reed,

I found this email address on www.penisdoctor.com, I am hoping to arrange a consultation regarding a variety of things!

First of all, a few years ago I received silicone injections – 60cc in my scrotum and 10/20cc in my penis.I love the sensation of having a foreskin ( from the silicone in my penis shaft, I was circumcised as a kid), I love the size and the way it feels, however, I am dissatisfied with its appearance. My penis shaft is lumpy, there is a small area that looks inflamed, it looks inflated when flaccid rather than dangling down like a normal penis,

Therefore I am looking to reverse the silicone procedure, and would like to review other augmentation methods.

I am not sure if I am able to have everything done at once or whether it would have to be done in stages, so please provide me a breakdown of costs, and what you would do for the following:

1. removal of silicone
2. foreskin restoration (do you do this surgery?)
3 penile lengthening and augmentation
(there seems to be lots of techniques in AlloDerm, scaffolding, fat transfer etc – what’s the difference in using each of these )
4. glanular enhancement
5. penis lengthening
(is there a way to disguise/minimise the scars)
6. testicular enlargement

I have part-time work in adult entertainment, which I love to do. Therefore I want to go as long, and wide (within sensible limitations) as possible.

Ideally I would love to have something close to the porn star Max Delong as seen here (forgive me for the pornographic nature of the content)
http://monstercockland.com/files/2047.jpg
http://pacificsunwholesale.com/photos/DVDs/549/cover2hires.jpg

Also I am pleasantly impressed with one of your after-pictures of one of your patients
http://www.penisdoctor.com/images/larrybuff2.jpg
(exmple #2: 2/1 from page http://www.penisdoctor.com/photo-penis-enlargement.htm#1)

Also, are there any techniques (frequent penis pumping, jez extender, or exercises) that you recommend would compliment the surgery?

I’ve noticed that I have seen any ‘new’ advances in cosmetic surgery to the penis – are there any new techniques that I should consider waiting for?

Many thanks,

Ted

July 3, 2010

Good morning Ted,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.  The attached may provide some helpful background information.

To best advise you, you would need to be seen at the office.

If you wish to take photos and talk over the phone, our consultation fee is 250 (a one time charge).

We perform all of the procedures mentioned on your wish list.

Have a happy and safe July 4th holiday weekend,

BellaDerm for Penile Enlargement, MTF mission statement

Monday, June 28th, 2010

When considering a product for penile girth enhancemnt or augmentation phalloplasty, consider BellaDerm and the MTF mission statement.  MTF, Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation, is a not-for-profit corporation.

About MTF

Mission Statement

The Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation is a non-profit service

organization dedicated to providing quality tissue through a

commitment to excellence in education, research, recovery and care

for recipients, donors and their families.

Background

No longer in the shadows of medical practice and organ

transplantation, tissue banking and tissue transplantation are coming

of age. Today, over 900,000 Americans receive tissue transplants

each year. The Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation, known as MTF,

is in the forefront of providing these life saving and life-enhancing

tissues. MTF was founded in 1987 by surgeons. It is a non-profit

national consortium of academic medical institutions and organ and

tissue recovery organizations across the country that recovers,

processes and distributes donated human tissue for use in transplant

surgery and research. MTF is headquartered in Edison, New Jersey,

with additional facilities located in Pennsylvania, California, Minnesota

and Germany, with recovery sites operated by MTF in Wisconsin,

California, Illinois and New York.

A leader in the tissue banking community, MTF’s work touches the

lives of many and, throughout its history, MTF has made a significant

mark on the tissue banking world. MTF has become the number one

tissue bank in the nation and is one of the largest providers of

allografts in the world, according to the American Association of Tissue

Banks (AATB). MTF provides the largest assortment of allografts

available for transplantation – more than 650 different configurations

of tissue including bone, skin and heart valves. Thanks to the

generosity of donors and their families, MTF tissue is used to enhance

the lives of patients in many ways – to help patients walk again, or

recover from debilitating and painful spinal conditions, or to salvage

limbs that might have been amputated due to cancers, to repair

complex traumatic abdominal wall injuries, reconstruct facial defects

such as cleft palate, or in breast reconstruction following mastectomy

– to name just a few.
